9th Grade Space Explorers

26.01.2018

On Wednesday the 24th of January 2018, 9th grade students from Golden section School visited the Museum of Cosmonautics, located under the stunning Monument to the conquerors of space at VDNkh.

Our Intrepid space exploring students were given a guided tour of the ’space era morning’ exhibition, in English, by Irina Yurievna.
After taking tests similar to those undertaken by the first cosmonauts, students worked in teams to investigate and present back to the group different key exhibits.
The teams researched and presented; Sputnik 1, the world’s first artificial satellite launched in October 1957. Sputnik 2 which blasted the first dog ’Laika’ into space in November 1957. The first ejection container, in which two dogs, Belka and Strelka, were safely ejected from a descending spacecraft in August 1960. Yuri Gagarin’s one seater descent capsule, used during his historic mission to space on the 12th of April 1961. The development of Cosmonauts’ space suits and the airlock used in the spacecraft Voskhod-2, which allowed the first human space walk or EVA in March 1965.
The students provided excellent and very informative presentations of which they can be proud, demonstrating their excellent English skills, for which they received high Praise from Irina Yurievna of the museum.
It was an enjoyable and informative Excursion and we’d like to thank the museum, students and staff for making it possible.

Andrew Rayton, British Astronaut
